Tattoo Aftercare

Tattoo Aftercare must do’s

1. Cleaning:

  • Use a mild, fragrance-free soap and lukewarm water to gently clean the tattoo. Then pat (not rub) the area dry with a soft, clean cloth to avoid irritation.

2. Ointment Application:

  • Choose a high-quality, recommended tattoo ointment such as Bacitracin, Neosporin, or Vitamin A&D

  • Apply a thin, even layer to the tattoo with clean hands twice a day. Rub it in gently

3. Moisturizing:

  • After the initial healing period change to a fragrance-free, hypoallergenic lotion.

  • Moisturize regularly, especially during the peeling phase, to maintain skin elasticity and vibrant colors.

4. Sun exposure:

  • Shield your tattoo from direct sunlight during the initial 2 - 3 weeks of healing.

  • Post-healing, use a broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher to prevent fading and UV damage.

6. Clothing Considerations:

  • Opt for loose-fitting, breathable clothing to minimize friction and promote a comfortable healing environment.

Tattoo Aftercare Don'ts

1. No Touching:

  • Resist the urge to scratch or pick at the tattooed area, as it can lead to scarring and disrupted healing.

2. Petroleum-Free:

  • Steer clear of petroleum-based products as they can clog pores and hinder the tattoo's breathability.

3. Clothing Cautions:

  • Avoid overly tight clothing to prevent unnecessary friction and irritation which can compromise optimal healing.

4. Gym & Water Related Activities:

  • Avoid swimming/hot tubs during the initial healing period of 2 - 4 weeks to prevent bacterial infections.

  • Avoid the gym within the first 72 hours of getting tattooed especially if it involves heavy sweating.
