  • - Rinse piercing with a sterile saline wound wash once a day.

  • -Gently remove any crust or discharge that may have built up around the piercing and carefully dry the area.

TIPS TO REDUCE SWELLING

  • -Cold water rinses

  • - Reduce area movement and avoid playing with jewelry

  • - Sleep with head elevated above heart the first few nights.

  • - If you feel your swelling/skin is growing over the jewelry (internally or externally) contact your piercer immediately to void the jewelry from embedding.

WHAT IS NORMAL?

  • The first 3-5 days you may experience swelling. Light bleeding, bruising and tenderness/soreness.

  • A whitish to yellowish secretion that may crust on the jewelry.

  • After 1st week you may still experience minor swelling and secretion.

  • - A piercing may seemed healed before the healing process is complete. This is because piercings heal from the outside in. Even though the outside feels fine, the tissue inside is still fragile. Be patient and continue cleaning.

ORAL PIERCING TIPS

  • Sleep with head elevated in the beginning to minimize overnight swelling

- Once swelling has subsides, it is important to switch the original longer jewelry with a shorter post or barbell to avoid damage to teeth and gums.

- Because this necessary jewelry change happens during the process of healing,

It should be done by a professional piercer.

- When swelling goes down, make an appointment with your piercer to check healing and downsize jewelry.
